21 Days of Raw. (The Results!)

This weekend marked 21 days that I have been completely 100% RAW, caffeine and sugar free and I must say I feel better than ever! I feel lighter and brighter somehow and I totally hate to say it but I think I have more energy than when I was guzzling coffee all day.

This wheat grass (and blue-green algae) thing is no joke!

Ironically it’s also been 21 days since I’ve had my last headache (I was getting one every few days) and since I’ve felt sluggish and unmotivated in the mornings.

For 3 weeks now I’ve been fueling my body with nothing but whole plant foods and I can’t tell you all the things that have improved since then. Being the believer I already am in plant foods, even I have been surprised at how different I feel just from this small change in my diet. Ok, who am I kidding??? It’s been a pretty massive change even for this veggie eater. Before my stay at Hippocrates, I was eating a mostly (75/25) vegan but not super-healthy diet. I was still having my cake and my dairy-free latte every day and dragging myself out of bed every morning. I had been feeling less than stellar and getting too many headaches and my body had been showing signs of distress.

Still I was not expecting the absolute amazing results from making this switch to an ALL RAW whole food diet. Even the times that I’ve gone off of sugar did not have the effects that this has had.

I’ve seen drastic improvements in just about every area of my life including mood, anxiety, hormone and blood sugar levels and even my hair and skin have improved.

This is me, after my morning workout today. No makeup. No extra editing. Just an Instagram filter. And just me, stepping into the light in my daughter’s room and feeling awe-SOME. (You know you feel great when you don’t even want to put on makeup because it feels too heavy, too much like you’re covering up something you don’t want covered.) And that is the light you see, my friends. That is the power of plant foods.

Today, 3 weeks later, I look in the mirror and I like what I see. My skin is as clear as my mind and even my worn out and retired digestive system has started working again. I’ve shed a few pounds, and I’ve gotten stronger in my workouts, especially yoga and I find myself going deeper into the poses.

Lo and behold, even my libido has improved. (Yes, I went there!) Now I never really thought I had any problems with this, but I suspect that I had just forgotten what ‘normal’ is, at least for me. I mean, let’s face it, when you’re feeling tired and dull and draggy all day, it affects everything, even your desire for sex. So let’s just say, things have returned to normal there…my husband is happy…and so I am I.

These 21 days have proven to be more epic than I ever imagined and I don’t regret a single day of it. They’ve been hard and challenging at times and I’ve been tempted to give in to the sugar cravings, but I wouldn’t trade the way I feel for anything, not even a Justin’s dark chocolate right now.

It hasn’t been easy but I’m so grateful for this experience, I’m so grateful for the gift of nature and the resources God has given us to heal ourselves. It’s all there my friends! Just waiting to be discovered and I’m so thankful for what I’ve discovered in these 3 weeks.

Yes, even the sweet horror that is wheat grass juice.
And though I will forever gag and hold my nose when I drink it.
It’s worth it
Sooooo worth it

How about you? Have you ever gone on a raw food diet/cleanse? What did you notice? What improvements did you feel? Please leave a comment, I’d love to hear your experiences with this!
